How to Make A Paper Snowflake: Step By Step
73Paper snowflakes make great decorations for Christmas and winter, but these paper creations are also fun to make year around. Today I will be showing you how to make a paper snowflake because these are affordable and easy to make decorations. If you make your decorations and buy your gifts ahead of time you can avoid the crazy rush of the holiday season. Also, with the slowing economy it is great to make crafts that are cheap and simple to make, which is why paper snowflakes have so many wonderful uses. In this hub I will show you how to make a simple paper snowflake and I will show you another fun craft you can make with the outline of a snowflake. I am answering this request by ProCW on how to make paper snowflakes because his creative and insightful hub requests always speak to me, but you should also check out his writing because that is something special and unique. This hub will show you how to make simple paper snowflakes, which save the trouble of having to make decorations for the holiday seasons.
So are you ready to make a simple paper snowflake?
Step One: Use A Round Object To Cut Out A Paper Circle
For this project you will need to cut out a round circle of any size, but larger circles are easier to work with. For this project I used a Quaker Oaks canister and a bowl to make large and small circles for snowflakes.
Step Two: Fold The Circle In Half
Fold the circle in half. Bigger circles are easier to work with, but smaller ones are ideal if you wish to make smaller snowflakes.
Step Three: Fold The Circle In Half Again
Step Four: Repeat The Above Step
Step Five: Cut The Top Off The Triangle
Step Six: Cut Out More Parts Of The Triangle
The Completed Snowflake
Watch This Video To See How To Make A Paper Snowflake
In this video I demonstrate how you can make a paper snowflake by cutting out a circle and folding it into sixteenths, which makes a very intricate paper snowflake. Snowflakes can also be made out of squares, but these snowflakes will have a slightly more squarish look. I actually think squarish snowflakes are fun as evidenced by some of the examples I use below. Continue to experiment because I find over time it becomes easier and easier to construct a decent paper snowflake.
All Paper Snowflakes Are Unique
Here are a few examples of how each and every paper snowflake is different, just like real snowflakes.
Use A Paper Snowflake As A Template To Make A Fun Pattern
For this craft I placed a paper snowflake over a piece of cardstock and colored in all of the holes, which is similar to using a stencil. When I removed the snowflake I colored the rest of the surface with a black colored pencil. I am going to fold this piece of cardstock in half to make a fun card.

Great instructions Sweetie. I believe anyone could do it.
It reminds me my dad's spray painting work. Such stensils are used in spray painting just like you colored in the holes. In spray painting, we call it cut-outs (thick paper or tin sheet used) where both the holes and the cut-off pieces are used for various designs.
What about the art done by paper foldings? I used to do Crane(bird) with paper, single paper by folding it several times. I didn't try any other shapes like that. I'd like to see if you can make a hub on this topic. Have you experienced?
I was not aware of the term origami. I just looked up after you put it here. It's a Japanese term, right? Yes, I mean the art of paper folding. But, it was a fun and I didn't think about trying something else creative. I used to do the only one thing(crane as told) in my schooling.
nice info
Thanks, will you write on it? or already written?
Debate - Is it that Christ or Muhamed? Or the American, non-american hubs? :)
Don't mistake me, I find your arguement is always good. But, there are lots of people who don't express their opinion in decent manner. Mostly, they leave a comment and don't come back to see. I'd like to suggest you not to get into mess, it's a friendly suggestion.
It will be great to add a video. I'm seeing this hub on first page, Hot in entertainment section.
Yes, I will surely join the chat forum. The reason for staying away is the english difference. Sometimes my english might confuse people and more than that I don't understand most of the sarcastic messages in forums. But, I'm trying to be active. I have become HP addict as everyone, I used to chat in yahoo but it was before joining HP. I'm totally concentrating on HP from day 1.
I just left a normal message in the chat room now :)
I did not know the chat room is different. I thought you were telling about the chatroom thread in hubber's hangout forum. Well, I got the link and I will try it later :)
Fun stuff. I haven't made a paper snowflake since I was a kid...
This reminds me of the snowflakes we used to make in school. I loved making them, but sometimes cut too far and wrecked them. Not sure I'd do any better now, but yours are pretty.
Nice hub, SweetiePie!
Old study, new write and you did a great job of it. So much fun too. I know I have cut my share of the flakes and will do it again sometime. Very fun hub, You rock SweetiePie. C.S.
very nice, reminds me of the time I tired to make a snow angel in August. FYI all tempature cheer does not do a good job removing grass stains.
now i finally know how to make a ROUND snowflake and not a SQUARE snowflake thnx a lot!!! =]
I think I will have the kids work on these tonight. Great detailed hub. Thanks.
I had printed this hub out a few weeks ago but just didn't find the time to make these paper snowflakes UNTIL I couldn't sleep one night this week so I got up at 2:00 a.m. and made tons of snowflakes for the windows in my house. Very theraputic and was not a bit tired the next day. I think of you a lot these days SweetiePie as I glance through the snowflakes on my windows. Thanks you so much!:)
Hehe, nice I totally remember making these in grade school.
This takes me back to my childhood - it was a family tradition for us to sit down and make paper snowflakes to put on the windows for Christmas. Happy Times!
Hello Sweetie Pie im just a kid and thank you :)

Hi :-)
Loved the Hub.
Gave you thumb up :-)
love snow flakes
Thanks so much. Every year I battle to think of crafts my granddaughter can make for the Christmas tree. With these snowflakes added to our existing decorations we are going to have a lot of fun this year. Afterward we can try your second idea to make useful and fun cards to send to family and friends.
These are great and look so easy to make. Can't wait to try this out with my daughter this Christmas
Thanks for the great ideas! I failed so many times befor I found this :)! Lol

My kids love these. It's always a good activity to build up their fine motor skills too. Great Hub.
