A Flower Button As A Pendant On A Necklace
Do you enjoy wearing floral inspired jewelry? Flower buttons can make wonderful pendants for handmade necklaces. As I am searching the aisles of the crafting store, my quest is to find inspiration to create a unique piece of jewelry. Thus, sometimes I like to use buttons as pendants because these are unexpected baubles on a necklace. The supplies I used for this project included:
- beading wire
- glass beads
- beading wire cutters
- jewelry pliers
- a barrel clasp
- a flower bead used as the pendant

In the photo above I am wearing a floral dress with my flower necklace. As you can see, I truly love all things flower related when it comes to my clothes and jewelry. Years ago someone complained that my photo album was full of flower pictures, but I cannot help photographing things that inspire me. Now it is time to get to discussing how I created the flower pendant necklace.
Step One: Slip On The Flower Button
Use the wire cutters to snip off enough beading wire for the necklace. I prefer a slightly longer necklace, so measure and plan accordingly. For this necklace I cut off about eighteen inches of beading wire, which allowed for adding a clasp to the necklace at the end. To add the flower button to the wire, simply thread it through the holes of the button. Place the button on the center of the wire since it will the the pendant on the necklace.
Step Two: Slip On The Shell Beads
In this step I added a blue shell bead to each side of the pendant. The shells are iridescent beads that will lend more visual interest to the necklace.
Step Three: Start Adding The Glass Beads
In this step I started adding the pretty purple and bluish glass beads to the necklace. I love how these multicolored beads can reflect so many hues, and go with many multi-color outfits. The multi-color properties of these beads remind me of flowers with more than one color.
Step Four: Continue Adding The Beads
Keep adding the beads and remember this is the most exciting part of the process: watching the necklace take shape.
Step Five: Half Way There!
Here the necklace is half way completed! I am always elated once I am to the mid-way point with making my necklace, which serves as a good opportunity to give your hands a short rest. Sometimes when I get into a jewelry making slump, and tell myself I will reward myself with a treat once I am half-way through working on a necklace project. This is good motivation to continue with the necklace, and prevents crafty projects from being abandoned.
Step Six: Almost Finished
The slight bend of the necklace has an almost artistic feel to it. I was almost finished with the necklace and too this shot, which turned out very beautiful. I love the way these multicolored beads shimmer.
The Completed Flower Pendant Necklace
Here is my pretty necklace finished above, and now it is ready to wear. Sparkly jewelry can have a simple design, and making such a necklace is a diverting way to spend an afternoon.
