How To Make A Mother's Day Gift By Hand

Create a special handmade gift for your mom on Mother's Day. If your mother adores flowers then she might like a handmade vase, which would be much more special than anything that is store bought. You can even reduce the waste of throwing a glass bottle into a landfill by turning it into a beautiful vase. An exquisitely shaped green glass water bottle could simply not be thrown away, or even recycled, so I decided to repurposed this glass bottle as a vase. First, I soaked the label off in water, and used a sponge to scrub off the remaining bits of glue and label that refused to budge while soaking in hot water. I dried off the vase and then used acrylic paint to create a beautiful design, which is reminiscent of stained glass. I painted mod podge over the glass bottle to seal in the painting, and to give the vase a shiny and lustrous appearance. Painting a glass bottle and turning it into a fun and easy makes the Mother's Day gift, Christmas gift, or even a birthday gift.

I created this flower vase with acrylic paints. Silk roses are perfect for displaying in vases because these never wilt. I bought these roses at the local crafting store.

Step One: Find A Bottle To Paint

Start with a plain glass bottle.

Step Two: Paint On The Azure Flowers

In this step I begin to paint on the azure flowers. For this project I have recycled many items such as the glass bottle I am turning into a vase, and the disposable cup lid I am using for a paint palette.

The light looks spectacular reflecting through the green glass with azure flowers. This vase has a stain glass effect that I truly love.

Step Three: Paint On The Yellow Flowers

I have gun to paint on the yellow flowers. I used orange paint for the center of the yellow flowers, and yellow paint for the center of the azure flowers.

Step Four: Paint On The Stems And Leaves

Here I used the paint brush to apply green paint for the stems and the leaves on my flowers.

I took a picture of the side of the vase showcasing the larger sun colored and azure colored flowers. I like how the small flowers are interspersed in between the large ones, and how the vase looks in dim and bright light.

Step Five:: Seal The Painting With Mod Podge

I decided to seal the painting on the glass bottle with mod podge, which will give the vase a lustrous glow. I let the vase dry over night before I moved it.

Step Seven: Give The Beautiful Vase To Mom

Now that the beautiful vase is completed it is time to give it to your mom.

This vibrant hand painted vase makes a green and earth friendly gift! I recycled a glass bottle in creating this gift for my mom, and I did not have to spend an extra money. This vase with created with supplies I had around the house.
