How To Make A Heart Montage Valentine's Day Card
70My goal this year is to make this the year of the handmade card and to encourage people to create their own cards and stationery. As the new Budget Examiner I actually encourage people to make many of their own creations, and I shall continue to do this on my hubs also. When you make something by hand it shows that you put your heart into it, which is a key component to a great Valentine's Day card or gift. As I have said many times everyone and anyone can buy a card at the store, but not everyone is going to take the time to make a card by hand. My favorite method for illustrating my cards is to draw directly on these, but this time around I used a heart template to create the fun heart montage pictured on the card below. This vibrant card would make the perfect Valentine's Day greeting, and no two would be exactly alike. Take a gander at the photos and the video below to see how I created this amazing card.
Step One: Find A Piece of Card Stock
Since I firmly believe in recycling I am using a piece of card stock left over from a previous project. I used my paper cutter to chop it down to appropriate size.
Step Two: Fold The Card Stock In Half
Here I folded the piece of card stock in half to create the card that I am going to decorate for Valentine's Day.
Step Three: Trace Around The Heart Template
Click thumbnail to view full-sizeI created a heart template by taking a small piece of card stock and folding it in half. Next, I drew half and heart and then cut this shape out. Once I unfolded the shape I had created symmetrical heart.template that I can use to decorate my Valentine's Day card.
Step Four: Trace Hearts All Around The Card
In this step I have begun to trace hearts all around the card to create the montage of heart shapes.
Step Five: Add The Pink Color In Between The Hearts
On my card I decided to add pink in between all of the heart shapes, which will give the background and uniformity.
Step Six: Add Red To One of The Side Hearts
For this Valentine I will color in the side hearts first, and I started by coloring in one of the partial hearts with a red colored pencils. Markers would also be a fun way to experiment with color when creating your own card.
Step Seven: Color In The Purple Heart
Here I am coloring in the purple heart at the top of the card. The hearts will be various Valentine themed colors such as orange, pink, red, and purple.
Step Eight: Color Another Red Heart
On the card I am coloring in the heart on the right hand side.
Step Nine: Color In The Pink Heart On The Bottom
I colored in the redish-pink heart shape on the very bottom of the card. This montage looks like a group of heart all shuffled together, and the one of the bottom is only partially in view.
Step Ten: Color The Orange Heart
Here I have colored in the orange heart in the lower left hand corner.
Step Eleven: Color In The Purple Heart
Color in the purple heart down at the bottom. Personally I love the deep purple colored I used on this heart, and it definitely add the vibrancy of the card.
Step Twelve: Color The Orange Heart
Here I am coloring in the heart that is toward the bottom of the page.
Step Thirteen: Color The Purple Heart In The Center
The focal heart is purple and vibrant, which will draw attention to the center of the card.
Step Fourteen: Color The Heart Light Purple
Color in another heart that is light purple, which is a nice compliment to the deep purple heart.
Step Fifteen: Color The Last Two Hearts Red
I have completed the Valentine's Day card by coloring in the last two hearts in the montage with a red colored pencil. Now the lovely card is finished and ready to give to that special someone. Check out the video below to see more of this nice card.

I love handmade gifts especially cards, that come from the heart. I have a collection of every card that was ever given to me and many of them are hand made.
What a great idea for a hub. Nice Job.

That is a very nice project and one that looks easy enough to do. You are very creative to come up with that. Reminds me of the Valentine cards my kids used to give to me and they meant so much that they made it themselves. Thanks again.
