Have you ever considered making a bracelet with safety pins? I know that sounds really peculiar to some because safety pins are not usually an item people would include in a bracelet, but believe me, this can work very well. When I was little I made several bracelets with safety pins, and this is an easy and fun project for children. It is also an item that adults can enjoy too, but keep in mind more safety pins and beads will be needed for an adult sized wrist. To make this bracelet you will need:

  • safety pins
  • faceted multicolored beads
  • stretchy cord
  • scissors

Step One: Put The Beads On The Safety Pins.

For this bracelet decide if you want to use large or small safety pins, but in my experience I have learned the latter actually are more suitable.  Next, decide how many safety pins will be needed to go around your wrist because this will vary.  Once you have mapped out the course you can begin placing the multicolored faceted beads on each safety pin.  I was only able to fit three beads on each small safety pin, but this can vary based on the size of the beads.

Step Two: Arrange The Pattern

It is much easier to place the safety pins on the bracelet if you have created a pattern first. Also this allows you to measure the safety pins to make sure there are enough to go around the entire wrist.  My pattern was created by using a pattern of beads, and lying the safety pins top up, bottom up, top up, and bottom up, so you get the idea.

Step Three: Start Stringing The Necklace

Use the scissors to cut two strands of stretchy cord because one strand will go through each side of the safety pins.  Start stringing the beads once you have determined the strands are long enough to go around your wrist.

Step Four: Keep The Bracelet Straight While Stringing

It is crucial to make sure the safety pins are being strung onto the bracelet correctly because you do not want the cords to get twisted, or for one of the strings to go through the wrong hole.

Fold the bracelet in half and tie it together.

Tie off the bracelet once all the safety pins have been added. To do this fold the bracelet in half and then tie both ends of the stretchy cord. Make sure the knots are good and tight before cutting off the excess string.

Step Five: Try On The Bracelet

Try on the bracelet to make sure it fits properly.  Adjust the safety pins and make sure the knots are secure on the bracelet.  Wear it for an hour or two just to make sure it will not fall apart later on when you wear it for an extended amount of time.  Once your bracelet is complete you are ready to wear it out and about.
