How To Draw A Picture of Your Husky Dog

81

By SweetiePie

Do you love pictures of dogs? I have fond memories of my childhood dogs, and I love to commemorate the memory of my pets by drawing pictures of them. Three years ago I drew a picture of my dog lady, and this past fall I painted a portrait of my dog Buster. This time around I decided to create a color illustration of my dog Natasha, who looked very similar to lady. Actually Lady and Natasha looked so much alike that one of my dad's friends who had not been over in years thought they were the same dog. The difference was Natasha had a bluish fur coat, and Lady's fur had reddish tones and highlights. Take a look at the photo essay I commemorated to celebrate the life of my dog Lady. This hub can also give you inspiration on how to create you own pet commemorative pet drawings.  Also, this drawing was created on a sheet of used printer paper, so this is also an earth day friendly project.  One less paper to be filling up those landfills.

Here is the completed picture of Natasha. Take a look at the steps below to see how I created this illustration.

Step One: Sketch The Outline of The Siberian Husky

Here I sketched out my dog. Yes the paper is used and crumbled, but all of these lines can be smoothed out. Also, the crumbling was much less noticeable once the picture was completed and in the frame.

Step Two: Begin To Add The Details To The Husky

In this step I began to shade in the details on my Siberian Husky Natasha.

Step Three: Add The Final Details To The Siberian Husky

In step three I added the final details to the Siberian Husky, and shaded using a blending stump. You can buy drawing pencils, colored pencils, and a blending stump at a crafting stores such as Jo'ann's Fabrics and Michael's, or you can even pick up

Step Eight: Coloring In The Valley

In this step I used the purple colored pencil to lightly color in the valley directly behind Natasha dog. I continued to smooth out the crumbled page as I colored the picture, and used pencils to hold it down and keep it flat.

How Do I Create My Own Frameable Picture?

So how can I frame my own drawing?  Easy!  First find a picture of your pet to draw, or you can even use your pet as a live model.  This might be a bit more difficult as pets like to move around quite a bit, so I suggest working with a photograph.  In the spirit of the earth day and the environment I suggest using a sheet of used printer paper as I did for my drawing.  Once it is drawn, colored, and framed no one will be able to tell if it were a bit crinkly.  If you do not have an pencils on hand you can always order a few online.

Colored Pencils and Pencil Sketches

One of my favorite mediums is layering colored pencil or pencil sketches, which creates rich and vivid texture. I use any colored pencils on hand, but you can always buy more expensive colored pencils if you preferred. I love how water colored pencils can be blended, and even turned into paint with water and a brush.  I have several different sets of colored pencils, and I simply mix and match these.  Layering different colors on top of each other also creates new and vibrant tones in many of my illustrations.

Frame That Drawing

Personally I do not mind buying a cheap frame at the dollar store, or picking up a nicer frame at the second hand store. There is no reason to pay an exorbitant amount for a frame if it is well constructed. Also, there are many good deals and affordable frames to be found on Amazon or ebay.

Look for certificate frames because these are the perfect size for framing reused sheets of printer paper, which are usually eight by ten inches. Remember when drawing you own pictures that you make the rules, so feel free to allow your imagination to create a unique piece of art.

Hi SweetiePie!

How have you been? I'm afraid I voted 'no' in your poll because, my friend, I CAN'T draw at all. I have tried and tried and everything I draw looks like a big, black blob.

My family teases me constantly-but maybe your wonderful step-by-step directions will inspire me to try again.

Natasha is gorgeous...and so is your voice!

Hey SP, Great Hub, my artist daughters got a HUGE thrill out of this. My 13 year old wants to know if you have any helpful tips for drawing feet on people. GREAT Hub and ART! Peace :)

Hi Lorlie,

I create these YouTube videos for my examiner and Hubpages tutorials because these give me backlinks, and also because I can add interest to my sites. I am also creating a new blog with arts and crafts videos, but I actually need to work on that one a bit more. Thanks for the lovely compliment, and I am sure you can draw something beautiful when you are inspired :).

Hi Katiem,

I just look at pictures of people and focus on that when I draw. However, Waynet here on hubpages has some great tips on drawing most anything, so if you ask him I am sure he could even make a hub out of that question. Thanks for commenting.

Hello, hello, 2 years ago

Thank you for you instructive hub. I used to be very good in drawing, especially commercial art in High School, but too many years and I am sure I lost it. I would love to try it again but to draw you really have to have the piece oa mind and time. I love it.

As a big fan of art and having written an illustrated hub on Art (portrait of a woman) I am always interested in reading other art hubs too. You have some very interesting hubs with an art slant. Your step by step drawing pictures really helped with this. Well done on a great hub!

SweetiePie, your Natasha is an absolutely beautiful looking dog. I bet she is a joy to cuddle.

Your drawing of her is lovely and the finished framed picture looks great. Unfortunately I am unable to view the video something seems to be not working with YouTube.

Aguvulpes,

The video was working fine on Youtube, maybe the site is just down at the moment. I have had about fifty views on this video though, so I know it is working :). Thanks for the comment on my Natasha dog drawing :).
