New Ideas For A Woman's Wardrobe

Updated on February 13, 2017

An outfit that looks put together on one woman may be a nightmare ensemble for her friend. People are usually pretty aware of the type of outfits that best flatter their body, but even the most fashionable of the fashionistas end up on the worst dressed list for wearing a truly eccentric dress on the red carpet. When I was in my early twenties I made some pretty funny blunders in the world of fashion, such as inadvertently bending over while wearing low-rise jeans, which revealed too much of my underwear. After that experience, I decided to wear tunic style tops which cover the mid-drift and the hip area whilst wearing low cut jeans or pants. When it comes to fashion I wear what works for my body and usually do not follow the trends. Do women have to wear skinny jeans to look sexy? Not necessarily. Are high heeled shoes needed to look glamorous Absolutely not! Look at what other women are wearing to get ideas about what you might like, but always be true to yourself when it comes to putting your ensembles together.

Even designing your own tops can be fun.

Tunic Tops Are Ideal

The tunic top is great for adding balance to an outfit if you are wearing skinny jeans or leggings. Personally when I wear pants I prefer flared ones, so I am probably out of step when it comes to the world of fashion trends. However, I have seen some women wear cute tunic tops with leggings, which just help to balance out the outfit. Some of the cuter tunic tops almost look like mini-dresses, which is a fun look reminiscent of the eighties.

Tunic tops are also great for preventing the wardrobe malfunction of exposing your underpants or midsection whilst wearing low rise jeans. Personally I find lower rise jeans to be more comfortable than the traditional variety that start at the high waist, but the latter requires wearing a top to cover up the midsection a little bit. For me it does anyway, especially at work!

Tops To Wear Under Low Cut Tops

Personally I do not mind low cut tops, but some people do not want to wear a lower cut top in public. So what can you wear under a low cut top? I like to wear a short sleeve shirt with a higher neckline under a low cut top. However, there is nothing wrong with wearing a low cut top, so long as it is balanced out with pants or a skirt. Wearing a low cut top and a short skirt screams: I am going clubbing, which might not be the message you want to send in most settings. However, if you are going out by all means wear these pieces, but women can get more of the right kind of attention by wearing a more revealing piece with a more concealing piece. If you must wear a miniskirt consider wearing a shirt that less more for the imagination.

How To Look Dressy Without Wearing Heals

I used to be one of those women who thought she had to wear heels to look fashionable. However, after I got sciatica I realized these were too painful to endure, and now I am the advocate of flat shoes, which are often considered less dressy by a few. However, I realized as a pedestrian that flat shoes are more forgiving for my feet. Some people say that wearing jeans with heels looks dressy, so I think wearing a skirt with more casual shoes can also look that way. When I wear flats I love the ballerina or slip on variety, which can range between dressy to weekend casual, but put together.

There are even professional looking shoes for businesswomen who may prefer flats over heals. Some say women look nice in a pair of heels and a nice pair of stockings, but would a man forego comfort to teeter around on shoes that hurt his feet or calves? I used to love heels, but I have learned that flats can be just as fetching. Also, I am 5'3 and not worried about how short ballerina shoes make me look.

Create Jewelry To Accentuate Your Look

I love creating my own jewelry because these pieces are just so me! A few years ago I saw how necklaces with inexpensive acrylic and glass beads often sold for thirty dollars at the department stores, which reminded me of how I used to make my own jewelry as a teen. After that I started buying bead, pendants, and jewelry wire to make some eye popping creations of my own. One glass pendant that I bought has the look of a precious gem, and people who admire it are often to surprise to hear it was much less expensive than it looks.

Another necklace I created by taking a sparkly button and simply adding the same colored blue beads to the piece. I love how this necklace turns out, and people are surprised to hear that I made it all on my own. My other favorite necklace was created with a shell bead as the pendants, and arcylic beads for the accents. It is so cute, pink, and beachy, plus it looks great with the impressionistic rose shirt I created in the picture at the top.

I love the necklace I created with a button as the pendant.

This necklace I used with a small shell as the pendant is one of my favorites.
