Drawing a picture of a jack-o'-lantern for Halloween is a simple and easy way to create fun decorations for this festive holiday. I decided to use crayons for this pumpkin art project, which shows how little I had to spend. Usually, I do not use crayons for art projects, but doing a Google search I discovered there are quite a few talented artists who use this medium, which inspired me. After drawing and coloring a jack-o'-lantern with crayons, I must say I really have a lot of respect and awe for artists who use this medium to create major works of art. The thing I loved about drawing a pumpkin with crayons is that I already had these lying around in my art supplies, and it created a waxy texture that gave the illustration more dimension. Also, I did not have to cut up a pumpkin to make my jack-o'-lantern, and since I like to cook my pumpkins whole, I prefer to draw pictures of smiling pumpkins instead. So here is how I created a drawing of a jack-o'-lantern for Halloween. Jack-o'-Lanterns are fun to draw on handmade cards, and this is a crafty project people of all ages can get into to! So if you have not drawn a jack-o'-lantern in awhile, I highly recommend trying this simple drawing project.

This photograph shows what the finished and scanned version of my Halloween jack-o'-lantern looked like, but I decided to share the process of creating this cute little guy. The plus side to drawing a jack-o'-lantern is that is far less messy than cutting up a pumpkin and scooping out the guts and seeds! Unless you are making a tasty pumpkin pie, why go to that hassle?

The first step is to draw the jack-o'-lantern on a sheet of paper. Drawing a pumpkin is easy because it is shaped like a circle with a stem on top. There is no complaining you cannot draw when it comes to creating your own jack-o'-lantern illustration.

The next step in the process of drawing my jack-o'-lantern is to begin shading him in with the darker red-orange, and the lighter orange color.

In the video above you can see I first shaded in the darker portions of my jack-o'-lantern.

In the photograph above I have almost finished coloring in my pumpkin. Now I need to color in the eyes, nose, mouse, and the stem of my cute little jack-o'-lantern guy.

During this phase of the drawing I colored in the stem of the jack-o'-lantern with green and brown crayons.

In the video above you can see how I used the black crayon to color in the jack-o'-lantern's eyes, nose, and mouth. I created a mouth for him with little triangles, which I thought was quite cute as I prefer a happy jack lantern over a scary one.

The completed background on the jack-o'-lantern drawing was colored in with copper and gold. I wanted to use glitzy colors to compliment my smiling pumpkin, so silver and copper seemed like the two best crayon shades to go with.

The video above shows what the completed Halloween jack-o'-lantern drawing looks like. I am going to cut it out and paste it to the front of a handmade card, and maybe I will draw more Halloween themed items later this month. I just find I do not create a massive amount of holiday inspired artwork, so I was happy I did create this jack-o'-lantern illustration.
