Admiring Large Boulders Out At The Pinnacles In The San Bernardino Mountains
80One thing that you can admire in the San Bernardino Mountains are the large boulders out at The Pinnacles. So how do you get to The Pinnacles anyway? First you need to head east on the 10 Freeway towards San Bernardino, and then merge onto the 30 Freeway once reach San Bernardino. When on the 30 Freeway exit on Waterman Ave, which will have a sign that says Lake Arrowhead and resort cities. Take Waterman Ave all the way past 40th Street and start heading up the San Bernardino Mountains on Highway 18. This byway is very scenic because it is on the edge of the San Bernardino Mountains, but it is also very windy! Take Highway 18 for twenty miles up the San Bernardino Mountains to Daily Canyon Road, which you want to exit on. Next, turn left on Highway 189, and take this all the way to where you see Five Points General Store, and then turn right on Grass Valley Road. Take Grass Valley Road four miles all the way out to Highway 173. The Pinnacles are visible once you turn left on to Highway 173. Make sure to obtain a San Bernardino National Forest Adventure Pass before parking near The Pinnacles, and these can be purchased at the local ranger station. Here are some of the beautiful pictures I captured during my adventures out at The Pinnacles, which are about five miles from Lake Arrowhead Village.
After it rains and snows a large creek forms at the base of The Pinnacles, but on the day I took this video it was much smaller since it had been no precipitation for a couple of weeks. Go to The Pnnacles after the rain and you will see a very substantial creek, which lodged this piece of driftwood in between the boulders.

Great pics!
Brilliant photos, it's nice to take some photos on a walk about away from buildings and such, I know it's something that I do often and I take my paints too!
SweetiePie. Hi. The Pinnacles look like an absolutely magical place.
The size and shape of some of the boulders are incredible, And the photo's are out of this world.
I loved this hub. Thank you for sharing it with us. :) :)
Oh your photos are magnificent. It really makes me want to visit this place sometime. Pinnacles looks like a really neat place to visit. I would love to see some photos of the stream when it is more substantial. If you ever get back there, that would be a neat thing to see.
Thanks for the photo essay.
Love your photos. I have always loved California, all of it. These pictures make me want to go back.
San Barandino is were I was born! As kid I hung out in Arrow Head and Big Bear! Great pics, brings backsome memories!
Nice water sound, SweetiePie, and the second sounded like thunder, but not sure. Back in the day I used to go hiking, clandestinly, in a neighbor's wooded pasture. I really loved following what we called a "coolie" a little stream about a foot wide that meandered through the forest and had a natural game trail (I'm pretty sure I was about the only human who walked there; I did take my nephew along once.)right beside it. I will never forget my first and only sighting of a scarlet tanager near that stream, and that's the time my nephew was along. Good job with the photos.
Some say the Pinnacles in Northern California are a part of the same formation, separated by movement on the San Andreas Fault.
Are there very large boulders around which you can climb on?
