A Day In The San Bernardino Mountains: A Photo Essay

Updated on March 11, 2017

During the Christmas season, many families decide to take weekend trips outside of Los Angeles, and the San Bernardino Mountains are often the destination of choice. Having grown up in the mountains I really do not understand the appeal of the more touristy venues such as Lake Arrowhead Village, but you should definitely visit that locale if a small town village is your thing. I enjoy getting coffee in the village and browsing around the stores every couple of years, but it is really just not my everyday thing. Being an introvert I am not one to enjoy a crowd, so I appreciate visiting with my family instead. We live on the back side of the mountain, which means we have beautiful vistas looking out at Mount Baldy, The Pinnacles, and Hesperia and Apple Valley. I absolutely love the scenery, and it is the one reason I often have to come home. I prefer to live in the valley these days, but once in a while, it is just nice to visit your home mountain.

Walking around the backside of the San Bernardino Mountains is very enjoyable. I love a leisurely stroll after a large holiday meal, and looking down towards Hesperia and The Pinnacles is quite a sight. The view is very open now because many of our magnificent trees burned in the fire of 2007. I even visited the large stump us kids used to play on, but it was burned out in the fire. Amazingly ecosystem recovers after fires, and little trees are already beginning to sprout in the place of old ones.

Baby is an extraordinary cat that I adopted four years ago. She now lives with my parents, but I enjoy visitings her quite frequently. Here I use my amateur photography skills to capture pictures of Baby in her natural environment, just catting around ing the San Bernardino Mountains!

The San Bernardino Mountains At Sunset

There is nothing quite as dreamy as a beautiful sunset over the San Bernardino Mountains.  This is one sweet delight that will not make you worry about your waistline, so go outside and enjoy the view.

Feel free the watch the videos of the San Bernardino Mountains come to life.  Self-shot pictures and videos add interest to your hub, and make it stand apart from the hubbing crowd, in my opinion anyway. Personally I would rather watch the sunset against the silhouette of the mountains as opposed to hanging out at the village, but that is just me.

A beautiful sunset is a great way to end a spectacular day in the San Bernardino Mountains. I hope you enjoyed these pictures and videos that I have created for your viewing pleasure. As a long time former resident of the mountains I am able to see a things that the tourists would usually not find, and I am happy to share this with you.

Have you ever visited the San Bernardino Mountains?
